Jewelanne Jay first learned the creative problem-solving process in college and questioned why she had not been exposed to this way of thinking as a child. Recognizing the importance of teaching creative problem-solving to children at an early age is the catalyst for her work today. As the creator, author, and illustrator of Bright Eyes Club Creative Thinking Adventures, her goal is to introduce both children and adults to a creative thinking process that both stimulates creativity and encourages a thinking process that strengthens one's ability to make decisions and creatively solve problems.
Jewelanne started college as an interior design major. Luckily, the curriculum during her first two years of college was focused on students learning and applying a structured problem-solving process to a broad range of design disciplines, from architecture to graphics.
Her first product design assignment was during her second year of college. That project was the beginning of her mind discovering its true creative self. The assignment was to design a widget (something used to perform a function like combing your hair, brushing your teeth, shining your shoes, etc.) that performed two functions. The two functions she was randomly assigned:
1. Something to wear on your arm
2. Something used to feed a small animal
The new surge of mental energy she experienced from this project was so exciting, she decided to change her major to become a product designer. Jewelanne completed her bachelor's degree in art and then earned her master's degree in product design.
During her graduate studies she fine-tuned her problem-solving process (along with learning ergonomics, manufacturing parameters, color theory, design principles, and much more). By repeatedly applying the problem-solving process she learned during her first years of college, her creative ability became stronger, as did her passion for design and the design process.
Note: During her graduate studies in product design, Jewelanne Jay received three national design awards, including Industrial Design Magazine Designers’ Choice Award for a medical product design.
Soon after graduation, she was hired into the medical industry. During that period, Jewelanne was awarded four patents and filed twelve invention disclosures with the legal department of her employer company. Needless to say, Jewelanne Jay is a very creative person.
As the creator, author, and illustrator of "Bright Eyes Club Creative Thinking Adventures," J- Jay strives to create game books that stimulate creative thought and innovative thinking in both children and adults. (Three-year-olds will likely need to play the game with an adult or older child to be fully engaged.)
Thus far, Jewelanne has written eight creative play games and is in the process of completing the illustrations for game book two. The subjects in that book:
Chapter 1 - Nursery Rhymes
Chapter 2 - Feelings
Chapter 3 - Ocean Fun
In each book, Jewelanne has designed every question to stimulate creative thinking and require players to subconsciously apply the problem-solving process of understanding (information processing), analyzing, and decision making. Jewelanne Jay's goal in each of her creative play game books is to introduce both children and adults to a creative thinking process that encourages creative problem-solving, enhances decision-making skills, and fosters innovative thinking.
